Central Fire Station - Singapore or JB

Central Fire Station is geographically located at latitude 1° 17' 32" North of the Equator and longitude 103° 50' 57" East of the Prime Meridian on the Map of Singapore. Central Fire Station built in 1908 at a cost of S,000, it included a watch tower and living quarters for firemen. The construction was supervised by then Fire Brigade Superintendent, Montague Pett. From that time, the Fire Brigade has consistently grown and improved. It became so invaluable that during the Japanese Occupation, the Japanese retained British firemen in their jobs, who were thus spared incarceration. The Central Fire Station was gazetted as a national monument on 18 December 1998 by the Singapore Goverment. Today Central Fire Station also houses the Civil Defence Heritage Gallery and showcases the history of firefighting in Singapore, and reveals the developments of civil defence in Singapore from the 19th century till today.
