250 more Flats in Tiong Bahru Estate

SIT or Singapore Improvement Trust will spend $1,500,000 to build 250 flats (about $6,000 per dwelling unit) on 4,200 sqft land along Tiong Poh Road. Adding up to 538 dwelling units and 20 shops in Tiong Bahru Estate.
SIT will also build air-raid shelter that could hold 2,000 people in Tiong Bahru Estate for $16,000. These shelters are build under the rear staircases of a block of flats with a 18 inches thick wall and reinforced concrete floor. Ground floor car garages in 4 blocks were converted air-raid shelters. Larger communal shelter with first aid rooms and emergency operating theatre were build near playground.
