New Newater Plant Opened

Singapore's fifth and largest NEWater plant was officially opened by Senior Minister, Mr. Goh Chok Tong. The facility at Changi East can produce up to 50 million gallons of water per day (mgd). It is the only large-scale water recycling plant in the world to be housed on top of a water reclamation plant.
This water treatment facility that collects and treats used water from the eastern half of Singapore. The treated used water is then channelled to the NEWater Plant that is located on its rooftop. Using the state-of-the-art microfiltration and reverse osmosis systems to treat the water. NEWater was introduced in Singapore in 2003 and it has been used primarily for industrial purposes such as wafer fabrication and the cooling of large machinery.
