Fined For Importing Fake Goods

A 43-year-old woman, Miss Mok Soo Khing, was caught with items bearing the Louis Vuitton trademark at the Woodlands Checkpoint in October 2009. Mok bought counterfeit branded goods from a number of shops in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, in order to sell them in Singapore for a profit. Woman fined S$48,300 for importing fake designer goods.
Mok declared the items at the Checkpoint but was soon detained by Customs officers. She was fined S$48,300 for importing into Singapore more than 150 pieces of fake designer goods which included wallets, pouches and belts. Mok had paid about S$4 for each belt while each wallet costs about S$6. She had intended to sell the goods to her friends at double the price.
For committing the offence, she could have been sentenced to a maximum of five years' jail, a fine of up to S$100,000 or both.
