First Female SAFOS

Officer Cadet Sharon Tan Xin Hui, 19-year-old, is the first Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship (SAFOS) female recipient in the award's 39-year history. She was from Raffles Institution (RJC) and will be reading Earth Sciences and Political Science at Stanford University. She will leave for her study in August and will return after four-years to serve six-year bonds with the SAF. The SAF Overseas Scholarship is one of the most prestigious in Singapore, second only to the President's Scholarship. Since 1971, there have been 276 recipients, including Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
