Police Officer Jailed For Dishonesty

A twenty-seven-year-old police officer, Mohamed Hanafi Mohamed Riza, who kept S$70 from a wallet handed over to him by a good samaritan, Mr Ronnie Woo, who had earlier found the wallet. However Hanafi kept the money and discard the wallet on 4 August 2009, when he was manning the Jurong West Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC). District Judge Jasvender Kaur sentenced Hanafi to four months' jail and said that sentence was appropriate as the public expected the highest integrity from police officers. For misappropriation, Hanafi could have been jailed up to seven years and a fined.
