Brother Of PUB Deputy Chief-Executive Jailed

Thursday, 20th February 1997

58-year-old Chui Fook Thim pleaded guilty to helping his brother, former PUB Deputy CEO Choy Hon Tim, flee abroad to evade the law. For that, Mr. Chui was sentenced to a 6-month jail term, becoming the first in Singapore to be convicted of such an offence.

The maximum jail sentence he could have received was 21 months for such crime. In passing sentence, District Judge Francis Remedios said a jail term was appropriate as Mr. Chui had, with no reluctance or hesitation, been an active participant in Choy's escape. Choy, now 60, is currently service his time behind bars for accepting bribes in exchange for information and aid on PUB projects while he was a top executive there.
