Nokia Singapore's first woman General Manager (GM), Ms. Kitty Fong Kit Sum, was convicted on Tuesday of four charges of corruption and fined a total of $60,000. The 47-year-old unemployed woman was also ordered to pay a penalty of $8,864.48, the amount she took in one of the charges. She was found guilty of corruptly accepting bribes in the form of help from chief executive of Victor Tan of Accord Customer Care Solutions to acquire three company's shares in 2003 and 2004 in return for helping ACCS further its business interest with Nokia.

Kitty Fong Kit Sum graduated from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1982 with a BBA degree. She joined Nokia in 1997 as a sales and marketing manager. In 2001, she became the company's first woman general manager here. She profited between $4,415 and $14,783 from the ACCS, CAM and Excelpoint IPO shares. She corruptly accepted $8,864.48 as gifts from Tan in February 2004.

She could have been fined up to $100,000 or jailed up to five years, or both, on each charge.
