Gambling Den Raided

Police have raided an illegal gambling den at an industrial unit at Defu Lane. Ten men and two women were arrested. A 40-year-old man was believed to be the den's manager while the remaining suspects were the patrons of the gambling den. Police also seized 15 modified computers, five modified jackpot machines and cash of about $650. Defu Lane is located in a small industrial estate at the fringe of Hougang Town.

In Singapore, any person who games in a common gaming house shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both. Any person found guilty of an offence of assisting in the management of a place to be used as a common gaming house shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years.
