Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital will be building a new 14-storey facility at its current location and four buildings will be conserved, including the front of the building. The S$70 million building will be operational by 2015 and will boost its current 400 beds to 600.

The hospital was founded in 1910 by a group of leading Cantonese immigrants from Guangdong for the poor and needy in the Cantonese community. On 11 March 1973, the hospital's constitution was amended to admit in-patients from all ethnic groups. The Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital has now transformed itself into a geriatric facility to serve the nation's rapidly ageing population. By 2030, one in five Singaporeans will be 65 and older.
