Singapore Training Facilities in Queensland

Friday, 28th November 1997

A ground-breaking ceremony for Singapore Training Facilities at Oakey in south-east Queensland, Australia. The ceremony will mark the start of construction of new facilities at the Australian Army Aviation Centre at Oakey for a Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) helicopter unit.

The Oakey agreement was signed in October 1996 by Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Dr Tony Tan, and Australia’s Defence Minister, Mr Ian McLachlan. It allows the RSAF to deploy up to 12 Super Puma helicopters to the base for a period of 15 years with the first aircraft expected to arrive late 1998.
