First Batch of 340 SUTD Students

The first 340 were selected from a total of 4,150 student applications have enrolled as the pioneer batch in the new Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). 47% of cohort are female, which is high for and engineering university. 75 students have been awarded scholarships from SUTD while 16 received scholarships from various organisations.

The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) has partnered Singapore's Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) to set up two research centres focusing on defence and cyber security. Temasek Laboratories will focus on building competencies and conducting R&D in system design and development, while iTRUST will look into a broad range of cyber security research. Both centres will complement the R&D work undertaken by other research establishments.
