Man Fined For Bringing In Toy Guns

Zainuddin Abdul Kader, 28-year old male, who imported four toy guns into Singapore without a permit was fined $15,000. Zainuddin was in Hongkong for a holiday in March 2009 where he paid HK$7,000 (S$1,200) for four toy guns from shop selling replica toy guns. The shop owner placed some of the dismantled parts of the toy guns into the model airplane kit boxes and Zainuddin declared the items as 'model kits'' and to air-mail them back to Singapore. He was caught when Singapore Post discovered it was a toy gun and reported to the police.

Zainuddin admitted to bringing in the controlled imports at the Singapore Post Centre at Eunos Road on ween 31 March 2009. It is illegal in Singapore to import toy guns without a permit from the authorities. He could have been fined up to $100,000 or three times the value of the goods, whichever is greater, or jailed for up to two years or to both.
