Grand Opening Of Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort

The Marina Bay Sands (MBS) was declared fully opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The MBS Integrated Resort (IR) had its soft launch April 2010. Revellers at the Bayfront Promenade and Event Plaza was treated to a water and light show which premiered at 8:08pm on 17 February 2011.
Mrs Lee Kuan Yew Cremated

The ceremonial gun carriage carried the late Mrs Lee Kuan Yew (nee Madam Kwa Geok Choo, age 90) from Sri Temasek (located within the Istana grounds) to Mandai Crematorium. At Mandai Crematorium a private funeral service was held. During the service, Mentor Minister Lee Kuan Yew delivered a touching eulogy.
Lee Kuan Yew Hospitalised

Modern Singapore's founding father Lee Kuan Yew, was hospitalised for chest infection. He was seen coughing badly a couple days earlier while watching the F1 Singapore Grand Prix from an observation deck located at Marina Bay Sands (MBS).
Brunei Deputy Minister of Defence In Singapore

Brunei's Deputy Minister of Defence, Mr Mustappa Sirat, called on Singapore's Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at the Ministry of Defence (Mindef). He also visited the Murai Urban Training and Facility, Sungei Gedong Camp.
Malaysia Prime Minister Visit Singapore

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak made a two-day working visit to Singapore. Mr Najib was accompanied by Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and Menteri Besar of Johor Abdul Ghani Othman. During the meeting, Prime Minister Najib and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong settled a land swap agreement for four land parcels in Marina South and two land parcels in the Ophir-Rochor area. And put the issue of development charges payable on the three parcels of Malaysian land in Tanjong Pagar, Kranji and Woodlands for the Permanent Court of Arbitration to settle. This breaking the 20-year-old deadlock on the 1990 POA.
Flooding Cannot Be Prevented

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has said no amount of engineering can prevent flooding in Singapore. He said after touring the waterfront development at the areas around Kallang River.
Film About Lim Hock Siew Banned

The film "Dr Lim Hock Siew" by filmmaker Martyn See was banned under the Films Act and classified it as a prohibited film. In a statement from the Information, Communications and the Arts Ministry, it mentioned that the film "gives a distorted and misleading portrayal of Dr Lim Lok Siew's arrests and detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA) in 1963."
Dr Goh Keng Swee Passed On

Singapore's former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Dr Goh Keng Swee, died after battling a long illness. In 1984 Dr Goh retired from politics where he had served as Deputy Prime Minister for 11 years. Dr Goh was educated at Anglo Chinese School and then studied economics at Raffles College. A scholarship took him to the London School of Economics where he obtaining his PhD in 1956.
HDB To Upgrade 85,000 Households

The Housing and Development Board (HDB) has committed $1 billion to upgrade eight towns. The eight towns are in the Central zone like Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Bishan, Serangoon, Kallang/Whampoa, Queenstown, Bukit Merah and Central. This upgrade plan was announced by Deputy PM and Minister for Home Affairs, Wong Kan Seng announced this at the HDB's 50th anniversary celebrations.
Anti-PAP Fliers Found

Anti-PAP (People's Action Party) fliers urging residents to take 'collective and concerted action to go against the PAP' have been circulated in Sengkang Housing Estate. These unsigned fliers were found stuffed in letterboxes of HDB Blocks 244 to 256, Compassvale Road. The A4-size flier with the criticisms written in both English and Chinese, made allegations about corruption and exploitation and complained about cost of living issues, among other things.
