YOG Torch Arrived

The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) torch completed its 13-day "round-the-world" journey to celebration cities representing five continents around the world. The Flame arrived in Singapore and will continues its traditional six-day torch relay around the island.


Mass Community Walk

In a display of community bonding, about 85,000 participants took part in the 2 kilometres One Community Walk event that was held at various locations islandwide. The biggest turnout was in Khatib, where about 7000 residents showed up for the walk. The walk was organised by the People's Association (PA) to commemorate the 50th anniversary and in support the coming Youth Olympic Games.


38 Australian Horses Arrived

38 horses, aged between five and 11 years old, for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Equestrian competition arrived in Singapore after travelling eight hours from Queensland, Australia by Air. This is the largest movement of horses in Singapore, the horses, after their arrival, were loaded onto trucks bound for the Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre (STCRC) - the equestrian competition venue. The horses will be under quarantine for two weeks from July 16 to 30. Some of the horses will remain in Singapore after the competition as part of the YOG legacy.


Youth Olympic Park Opened

The Youth Olympic Park, Singapore's first art park, was officially opened. It is located in the entrance of The Helix bridge. In the park, you can enjoy an enriching and interactive art experience, and explore 27 winning artworks by Singapore youths that are based on the theme, "Aspirations for life in Singapore".


Nike opens $5m flagship

Nike has invested $5 million in a new flagship store in Orchard Road, unfazed by the economic gloom. The store which took over the two-storey duplex previously occupied by Topshop in Wisma Atria is the first store owned and operated by the brand itself. All previous Nike shops were opened with local partners. This is the first flagship by the brand in South-east Asia and also the first in Asia to have Nike's T-shirt customisation service. In Singapore, with the renewed focus on sports as a result of Singapore winning the bid to host the first Youth Olympic Games in 2010.


Host Inaugural Youth Olympic Games

Singapore was declared host of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2010. In all, 26 sports will be contested. YOG are planned to be an international multi-sport event held every four years in staggered summer and winter events consistent with the current Olympic Games format. Each participating country would send at least four athletes. 170 countries are expected to participate in the 2010 Youth Summer Olympics. (There are over 200 National Olympic Committees, most of which participate at the regular Games).
