No More Hybrid Grass For National Stadium

Sports Hub has finally decided that the pitch at the National Stadium will be fully grass. A new grass pitch will be grown in an external nursery and when it is matured it will be transported to the stadium and laid over of the current hybrid pitch. They have tried unsuccessfully to fully nurture the hybrid grass despite spending lots of money on it even to the extend of employing expatriate consultant to oversee the task.

In the words of Singapore ex-Prime Minister "driving around and then going into the pits; after that, changing the tyres and revving out again ... makes no sense to me." He said he could not understand the allure of such events. For the next 3 days, Singaporeans and Foreigners alike will have to bear with the noise of these loud machines and massive traffic jams into and out of the city due to traffic diversions.


Indians Pounded Singapore Hockey Team

Indian men's hockey team started their 2012 London Olympics qualifying campaign with a thumping 15-1 win over Singapore in New Delhi Stadium. Tournament favourites India, toyed with Singapore throughout the match. France also trashed the Singapore Men with a 9-0 win.


Singapore Sports Hub Groundbreaking Ceremony

The old National Stadium at Kallang had surrendered to the demolition ball as it is being torn down to make way for the Billion Dollars Singapore Sports Hub. The Sports Hub will be Singapore's premier land and sea sports, entertainment and lifestyle hub with integrated programming. the Sports Hub will include the following facilities: a new 55,000-capacity National Stadium with a retractable roof; a 6,000-capacity indoor Aquatic Centre that meets world tournament standards; and a 3,000-capacity multi-purpose arena which will be scalable and flexible in layout. After a two-year delay, the groundbreaking ceremony was finally held for this billion dollar installation in Kallang.


First National Karting Championship

Some 70 Go-Karters raced in Singapore's first National Karting Championship with a S$50,000 sponsorship from Nescafe Singapore. Races will be held at Kartright Speedway's new 750-metre track in Jurong. The track in Jurong is the former Arena Country Club's golf driving range. It took some five months to transform this old golf driving range into a go-karting track. Go-Karters can even kart in the night as there are powerful floodlights fitted all around the track.


Second Go-Kart Race In Singapore

The Singapore Motor Club and the Forces Motoring Club jointly organised the second Go-Kart race in Police Training School (Police Academy). There was be six racing events including a 25-laps race for the open category and 10-laps race for ladies category.


First Go-Kart Race In Singapore

Singapore Forces Motor Club hold its first Go-kart Race at Dover Road 40 Base Workshop carpark (off Ayer Rajah Road). A special 10-lap event om several locally constructed go-karts will compete against an American model driven by Mr. J. N. Fredrickson.


Singapore Go-Kart Club Formed

The Singapore Go-Kart Club was formed and will be organising Go-Kart Racing in Singapore. The Club is affiliated to the Singapore Motor Club. Go-Kart racing was first introduced in 1957 in the United States.
