Oil Price Down But Petrol Price Up

Pump prices across all petrol stations when up after Government announcement of a hike in petrol duties. The tariff for premium grade petrol is now SGD$0.64 per litre, up by 20 cents, while the duty for lower grade petrol, such as 92-octane and 95-octane, is SG$0.56 cents per litre, up by 15 cents. The petrol companies sell their 95-octane petrol for about SGD$2.00 per litre. Premium grade petrol is around SGD$2.50.


Lee Kuan Yew With Iron Lungs

The nation's first Prime Minister and former Minister Mentor, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, was warded in the Intensive Care Unit at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). Mr Lee, 91, was for severe pneumonia and was put on Iron Lungs support (mechanical ventilator). An iron lung is a non-invasive negative-pressure ventilator, used to artificially maintain respiration.


Prime Minister's Office Web Page Kana Hack

Subpages on the Prime Minister's Office was hacked into late night. The hacked page showed "It's great to be Singaporean today" next to the group's trademark Guy Fawkes mask, a symbol of anti-establishment defiance worldwide. It was the work by apparent members of activist group Anonymous. PM Lee vowed to hunt down the one who attacks the state network.


Free Entry To The Museums

Singaporeans and permanent residents (PR) will be able to enjoy free entry to all national museums and heritage institutions from 18 May 2013. This was announced by Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong.


Lee Kuan Yew Had A Transient Ischaemic Attack

Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, Former Minister Mentor and First Prime Minister of Singapore, was admitted to Singapore General Hospital after experiencing a suspected transient ischaemic attack (happens when blood flow to a part of the brain stops for a brief period of time) associated with a prolonged episode of atrial fibrillation (or irregular heartbeat).


Punggol East By Election

PM Lee announced that the by-election for Punggol East will be held on 26 Jan 2013. Mr Lee said even though he has been busy with national issues, he has decided to hold a by-election to give Punggol East residents their own MP in Parliament, before returning back to refocus on national issues. It was rumored that PAP Activists were stockpiling plywood that is mainly used for election posters ahead of the announcements. The By-Election was eventually won by the opposition, Workers Party, with a deciding 60% majority.


First Woman Speaker Of Parliament

Minister of State Halimah Yacob to be elected as Speaker of Parliament. She is Singapore's first woman Speaker and will fill the post vacated by former Member of Parliament, Mr Michael Palmer, who stepped down due to an extramarital affair.


WP Won Hougang By-Election

The Elections Department declared the by-election was won by Workers Party (WP). Two parties, the ruling PAP and the WP, fought for the vacated seat.


Ms. Gillard At The Istana

Australia's Prime Minister Julia Gillard is on an official visit to Singapore. She was given a ceremonial welcome at the Istana this morning. Also present was Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. After the ceremony, Ms Gillard met Singapore's Acting President Mr J Y Pillay. Ms. Gillard is in Singapore to hold security and trade talks with her Singapore counterpart, Lee Hsien Loong. Ms. Gillard reassured that the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) would be allowed continued access to training facilities in Oakey in Queensland, Pearce in Western Australia and Tamworth in Victoria.


Hougang Constituency By-Election

A By-Election for Hougang Constituency will be called as the Member of Parliament (MP) seat was left vacant after the Workers' Party (WP) expelled Mr Yaw Shin Leong, following reports of Mr Yaw's personal indiscretions.
